Breaking Free from the Government's Idea of "Education"

Recently, California courts finally upheld the right of parents without teaching credentials to homeschool their own children, but for a while there the right was in doubt. A California court, ruling in a child custody case, had been asked to order that the children in the case be placed in a public school, against the parents’ wishes. When it first considered the issue, the court ruled that homeschooling parents must have a teaching credential. But after the firestorm that decision caused, the court decided to hear the case again, and eventually reversed itself.
Almost 166,000 children are homeschooled in California. The Red Blooded American Girl, a homeschooling mom, participated in the case as a friend of the court, represented by the Pacific Legal Foundation. Here is her interview on the Lee Rogers show, discussing the issue. It aired on KSFO radio on June 23, 2008.
